Words with my girls

Saturday, 27 August 2011

Oh my word, children say the cutest things. And as a mother of course I think my girls say THE cutest things of all ;) Kyleigh is such a smart little "thinker" who has such insightful thoughts and questions for a 4 1/2 year old. At least I think so. It seems that each day she says something that causes me to pause, laugh or wipe tears from my eyes. What a precious gem. Here are just a few little examples that come to mind...

"Mommy, why don't tigers breathe fire?"
"What is a tornado? Why do they happen? When is it coming here?"
"When will I get to see Jesus?"
"What colour is our future? That kid on the radio says his future is green."
"Let's play Cinderella. You be the stepmother and I'll be the princess. You sit here..." (instructions from my little director)
"Dear God, please let my mommy stay home from work tomorrow."
"My heart pumps blood to all of my body. Isn't that cool?"
"I love Lissie (Alyssa), I'm glad I have a little sister. I love being a big sister."

Last evening before Jarvis and I went out on date night, Kyleigh heard her daddy call me beautiful. She was cuddled up on my lap after her bath, looking up at me with her adorable bright blue eyes and then she said "Mommy you are always beautiful." With a laugh I said "Always? Even in my pajamas?" Kyleigh said "Of course you are beautiful even in your housecoat. Even when your hair is messy. You are beautiful forever and ever. I love you mommy." "Kyleigh, you are soooo beautiful, inside and out." It was a moment that I will always remember, a mother/daughter conversation that is imprinted on my heart.

I'm looking forward to moments like this with Alyssa as well in the near future. She is a 20 month old little talker and has even been speaking in sentences on occasion. "Mommy lay down here" when she wants me to lie on the floor and play with her and "Sit in chair for milk" when she wants to nurse. She has a funny accent when she talks and I think she sounds Christopher Walken-like. Jarvis doesn't think so, but he's wrong ;) Alyssa tends to say many things with a whiny "uh" on the end (milk-uh) and currently has a very questionable pronunciation of both "Frog" and "Truck", which will no doubt result in many more raised eyebrows to come. "Frog, Frog, Frog book!" We're working on it.

I saw this quote on a blog tonight and wanted to share it here. I am an Anne fan, so it's not surprising that I love this one :)

"I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string." – Anne Shirley in Anne of Avonlea, by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
